Emblematic objects, scrolls, and meaning-making
Scrolls have been used across cultures for thousands of years to hold what is precious, private, and worth preserving. In this workshop, you will make your own scroll — part writing, part art — to internalise and memorialise whatever you choose to carry forward. What you write inside belongs only to you: no one can see it. Yet the scroll itself is a public object, and everyone who sees it understands that it contains something of value. That tension — between private meaning and public presence — is where the transformative power of scroll-making lives. No prior art experience needed.
