Sound journeys

Mind, Unlocked: The Soundscape of Creative Revelation

I use sound as part of my artistic practice — across installation, video poetry, and live environments.

It is not accompaniment. It alters perception.

Sound bypasses language and works directly on the body. It can disorient, ground, expand, or hold.

I use it to shift how experience is felt, not just understood.

Gongs and singing bowls are not just instruments. They are fields of vibration — complex, layered, and unpredictable.

Unlike structured music, they do not resolve in familiar ways. They move through the body, not around it.

I work with multiple gongs and instruments, creating shifting sound environments rather than a single tonal experience.

I also create live sound environments and guided journeys for those who want to experience this work directly.

What is a Creative Sound Journey?

This is meditation without the effort, a dedicated space to quiet inner chatter and access profound states of rest. Sound journeys use gongs, crystal and Himalayan singing bowls, chimes, and other instruments to create immersive, ever-changing soundscapes that promote deep relaxation, emotional release, and inner journeying.

Unlike music, the unpredictable nature of gong and bowl resonance bypasses the mind's preference for pattern, gently redirecting a highly active mind and supporting nervous system regulation. These sessions are particularly beneficial for those impacted by trauma.

My sessions are designed for creative insight, intellectual rest, and emotional processing — a non-therapeutic space for radical self-discovery.

Themed Immersions

The format is specifically framed to help participants navigate creative blocks, process complex cognitive themes, and gently facilitate emotional release associated with stress and trauma. Drawing on my experience as a writer, artist, and sound artist, I offer sessions designed to stimulate creative flow and unlock the mind, such as:

  • The Essence Immersion: For simplifying complexity, reducing overwhelm, and getting to the nub of a problem.

  • The Perspective Shift Session: For non-linear insight, offering inspiration from sources you may not realise you possess.

  • The Narrative Soundscape: For processing complex thoughts or life events (ideal for writers or memory keepers).

  • Inner Journeying for the Rational Mind: Prepare for vivid inner journeys, unexpected emotional epiphanies, and the strange, wonderful sensation of being taken to places you may never have been before.

Sessions will begin with a brief, optional guided reflection, writing prompt, or verbal framing (often inspired by poetry or right-brain exercises). Then, for the next hour, surrender to the sound, allowing the mind to work on these unconscious themes.

My Experience

Sound has been integral to my artistic and filmic practice throughout my career — woven into installations, film, and performance as both texture and meaning. The sonic journeys I facilitate grow from this same creative root. The practice is also grounded in an academic understanding of attention states and resonance, and in a long personal relationship with sound as a medium for processing and integration.

For over thirty years I have facilitated art journaling, freewriting, writing workshops, and participatory creative experiences — guiding people through intensive reflection and creative breakthrough.

  • Completed world-renowned Gong Master Training certification

  • College of Sound Healing singing bowl diploma

  • Trained under leading gong practitioner Sheila Whittaker

  • Member European Society for Trauma and Dissociation (ESTD)

  • IFS therapy, trauma informed
